Tibet continues to burn; first Tibetan self-immolations of 2012.
Around 2.40 pm this afternoon in the Ngaba region of Tibet, several passersby witnessed what would be the 13th and 14th incidents of self-immolations carried out within the restive borders of occupied Tibet since March 2011, and the first cases of 2012. Eyewitnesses said Chinese security personnels soon arrived and took the two men away, and their whereabouts and conditions as of now are unknown.
Fourteen Tibetans have set fire to themselves since March of last year. TIME magazine called it one of the Most Underreported Stories of 2011. Under China’s unrelentingly oppressive rule over Tibet, this fiery trend threatens to carry on well into 2012. Will the international media and heads of states continue to turn a blind eye to our brothers and sisters burning inside Tibet? Will you?
